Mishalak Makes A Fashion Declaration

Okay I risk being pretentious, but it hast to be said by someone. When I look in the mirror wearing something and decide I look like a drone at a big box store the look is dead. Khaki pants for men are dead and burred. True they're still being marketed, but that's the nature of fashion. The word on the street won't get up to the decision making level by capillary action for quite a while after something becomes uncool.

What's good then? Well as usual I'm not on the bleeding edge but I think full on dark blue jean are back, faded still works but isn't as great. In slacks try something with a slight pattern or texture seems good. Fabrics with a subtle herringbone or a bit of color variation like wool are what I have in mind when going out to shop for a suit this year. Dark gray looks very elegant and is quite practical, plus it never goes completely out of fashion.

I have a pair of pants with a herringbone somewhere between white and khaki; a sort of unbleached cotton or wheat color. That looks good to me for a lighter look.

Black will never truly be dead, but there has been too much of it and I'm just tired of flat black. Black suits make men look very striking, but also rather grim. But whoever is on about pink being the new black is either out of his mind or making a funny statement about fashion. Full bright pink isn't a good color in my none too humble opinion. If I get anything pink it will be more peach or salmon. Pink is tacky! (Everybody chant!)

The bottom line is wear what looks best on YOU, but do try not to look like an Old Navy marketing squad ambushed you. And if I turn out not to be out of my fashion mind prod me into making further pronouncements.

Bad Signs

Breathless quotes about a movie are pretty much never a good sign, but the earlier they come in the advertising the more nervous I think the marketing drones are about it making its nut. They always seem to show up at some point, but with bigger movies it seems like it happens several weeks after the movie opens. Or am I out of my gourd yet again?

It is a tricky thing guessing if a movie will be good or bad from ads and I probably won't go anyway to the opening night, but I'm wondering if The Village is going to have trouble.

Pick three books you would hide a message in so that only people you might want to hang out with can find you through them. My selections:

Dragonsbane
Vampire Tapestry
The Dragon Waiting

Because picking The Club Dumas or The Name of the Rose would be too obvious.
