Mishalak Makes A Fashion Declaration

Okay I risk being pretentious, but it hast to be said by someone. When I look in the mirror wearing something and decide I look like a drone at a big box store the look is dead. Khaki pants for men are dead and burred. True they're still being marketed, but that's the nature of fashion. The word on the street won't get up to the decision making level by capillary action for quite a while after something becomes uncool.

What's good then? Well as usual I'm not on the bleeding edge but I think full on dark blue jean are back, faded still works but isn't as great. In slacks try something with a slight pattern or texture seems good. Fabrics with a subtle herringbone or a bit of color variation like wool are what I have in mind when going out to shop for a suit this year. Dark gray looks very elegant and is quite practical, plus it never goes completely out of fashion.

I have a pair of pants with a herringbone somewhere between white and khaki; a sort of unbleached cotton or wheat color. That looks good to me for a lighter look.

Black will never truly be dead, but there has been too much of it and I'm just tired of flat black. Black suits make men look very striking, but also rather grim. But whoever is on about pink being the new black is either out of his mind or making a funny statement about fashion. Full bright pink isn't a good color in my none too humble opinion. If I get anything pink it will be more peach or salmon. Pink is tacky! (Everybody chant!)

The bottom line is wear what looks best on YOU, but do try not to look like an Old Navy marketing squad ambushed you. And if I turn out not to be out of my fashion mind prod me into making further pronouncements.

do try not to look like an Old Navy marketing squad

Not much chance of that here, strictly thrift store stuff with the emphasis on denim. This is mostly because I seem to be able to destroy anything lighter weight in a few weeks, same reason I don't wear a watch. Besides, I'm totally lacking a fashion sense, I'd have to depend on my kid and I suspect the age gap might cause a malfunction and/or result in a red terror alert level.

Linen and linen coloured is always good on fair people. Come to think about it, on dark people, too.

I should finish up that medieval style linen dress that's been sitting in my fabric box since my friends' medieval wedding was cancelled.

Pink is just fine as long as it's not in your eyes... ;-)

You see, when on the run, and not thinking, ran into our local Target for some toy shopping. While wearing a pair of khaki colored cargo shorts...and a red t-shirt.

I was asked where certain things were kept SO many times by people who just knew I worked there, that I began giving completely bogus directions out.

Khaki might still have it's uses...but never pair it with red.

And pink is right out. Blech.

Khaki is dead?? Oh no! What about my khaki hiking shorts? I had hoped that wearing them with my usual boots would give me that Rugged Outdoorsman look.

Pink is tacky on men - some women can pull it off, tho.

I was about to start wearing my khakis to work, which is why I bought them, but I hate them, so now I'll get rid of the khakis and keep the linen slacks. And actually wear them some day.

I like the feel of denim and keep trying to find jeans in other colors besides blue and black. Please clue me in to any place that sells colored jeans for tall fat men!

Even I don't own jeans in colors besides blue and black. I've not even been able to find a pair of white jeans and they do happen for men at times. I do have a pair with a nice green wash, but that's as close as I get. My suggestion is to take a pair you don't mind altering and give them a green wash with RIT dye. Otherwise you'll have to join me in either making or commissioning unique jeans.

Once in a blue moon Eddie Bauer or L. L. Bean have colored jeans. I keep checking their websites, because they seem to have them for about three weeks sometime during the year, and then they vanish.

Granted, they're not very Diesel-y, but there you have it.

Aiee. Right now Eddie Bauer is selling jeans in "driftwood" (brown) and "pine" (green). Check out the website. These weren't there last week...

Have you tried Kohl's?
There's a store here called Gordman's that's got a pretty large big&tall section.

And Big&Tall Casual Male has always been a favorite place of mine to shop.

(Yes, I'm a girl, and I wear men's clothes.)

I don't care what you say, I LIKE pink! (Not all shades on all people, but that's true of all colors.) And it's cousin purple (violet, lavender, et al.) I don't care much one way or the other about khaki ... a kind of beige works just as well for light-colored office wear. But you can take pink out of my wardrobe when you pry it out of my cold dead fingers!! - Rose

Pink is fine on some people. And some shades. But most of the time it is just wrong. And it doesn't go very easily with the other colors in the colors avalible to males. Black with pink? Frightening. Grey works, so does tan or khaki. Blue won't.

I like black with a little pink (not too fushia though - yuck). But then I'm a little odd at times. ;-)
