The Lack of Rain on the Plains
Jun. 27th, 2012 09:30 pmJust to be clear, I do not live Colorado Springs and I am not likely to be in Danger unless the whole of Jefferson County/Lakewood burns down first. And it rained at my house this afternoon.
Fire in Colorado... There is always a danger of fire during a drought. And nearly every bit of Colorado is in a drought, at best some places are in the "abnormally dry" category, everywhere else is in a moderate to extreme drought officially. The area burning near Colorado Springs is in the "severe" area. One year ago more than half the state was experiencing a fairly average year, though parts were dry to drought stricken.
Right now it appears that First Friday Fandom is fine, the NOAA webpage on the fire shows the fire as not having crossed Centennial Blvd.
