Bad Sounds
May. 19th, 2012 05:59 amI believe I have just been awakened by a sound suspiciously like hail falling on my roof. If it was hail I may have to take up heavy drinking, it would be the second time this year and it is only May. The first time was, of course, the day after I put a number of plants outside. So far I have lost a surprising number of cabbage and squash plants as well as half my leeks. Gardening is very sad at times.
Update: Long day of gardening. There seemed to be some problems, but not anything like I feared. A few holed leaves and some things that have died since last I was out, but over all the garden is going fairly well. Onward, upward, and I think I shall have pictures next month. Until then things just are not terribly impressive looking. I need to do a lot more mulching to make things look nice. Also to put down the weeds. Many of the asparagus came up, but not all so I will need to go get a refund on one package. The leeks look fairly well and I am mostly pleased with the tomatoes. I still need to get a last few things in the ground. Two and a half beds to finish planting, plus odds and ends to replace as things fail to come up or need filling in later in the season.
