2016 Illinois Senate Race

Total speculation here, but Barack Obama could try to take his Senate Seat in 2016. After a person is President they can do whatever they want, really, they don't have to take any sort of job ever again. But if Obama enjoys legislating and high office, why wouldn't he run for Senate? Unless he is as unpopular as Truman he'd undoubtedly win in his home state. And though a high pressure job, it is much easier being a Senator than President. It would be a great deal more likely if he lost in 2012 for him to return to national politics by running for his old senate seat, but it is a possibility regardless given term limits.

Hmmmm. I believe there is precedent for that, although it would be 19th century.
