I've been added by a number of people I don't know and who also appear to be adding all sorts of other people lately. [livejournal.com profile] sexy_angel83 is one of them. The first suspicious thing is that going to 'her' profile page I find that she has been a member since the 23rd of July this year. But the entries in 'her' journal are backdated, some as far as January 19th and appear to written by someone in Chicago where the profile page of this user is set to Colorado. And the common thread tying together the 355 different people added by this user are having a location set to Colorado. So, is this some strange new form of spam or scam? No contact from the person and whoever it is does not appear to have just selected active users.

The other is [livejournal.com profile] luciano_hindle, and looks a wee bit more legitamate. But only a wee bit, the whole of his journal is in Russian and what I can (barely) translate seems to be sort of platitudes rather than writing about him or herself. But on the other hand the journal was created on June 15th this year and only has updates since then. And there seems to be something like a rhyme or reason to the adding by this person as there are a number of fans on there.

So any new stupidities going around I should know about?

Hmmmm, [livejournal.com profile] luciano_hindle added me too. I thought it was very odd as their journal is in Russian, but I haven't taken the time yet to try the translation bit. Mind you, I usually don't acknowledge people who friend me without introducing themselves to me or making a comment on one of my public posts.

I've had 2 or 3 of the Russian people do that. Apparently it's some sort of meme/joke.

I don't speak Russian, so I can't verify this, but I've heard from those that do speak it that their journals are like crappy beginner Russian.

*shrugs*

I've just been banning and moving on.

I can move on... But I would have liked to know why. I'm crazy like that.

Yeah, I would have liked to know why, too.

[livejournal.com profile] sexy_angel83 added me, too and I agree with your observations. I don't mind that this user added me, my entries are friend's only anyways and she can't view them. Very odd profile, but then there are many odd profiles here, too.

Obviously none of the posts that I don't want read by the general public are public, but it annoyed me to get excited and then find that the person was not actually interested. (I always get excited when someone starts reading me, potential new friends after all.)

I don't want the general public to read mine, so they are friend's only. So basically, you have your entries public to make new friends with similar interests to your own. I guess it is ok as long as you don't put anything too private that you don't want non-friends to know. I think the journal was created to lurk and not really for attaining friends, etc.
