Vodka
1.75 liter ~$20
40% abv = exactly 0.7 liters of alcohol
Cost per liter of alcohol $28.57
Plus (inexpensive) fruit juice to thin one liter of alcohol with its 1.5 liter of water to 4% abv 22.5 liters. At about $3 per liter that makes total cost $96.07
Cost per drink = $1.36
(Decent) Beer
6 pack of 12 fl oz bottles or 2.12 liters ~$7.00
4% abv = approximately 0.0856 liters of alcohol and a cost per liter of $81.77
Cost per drink= $1.17
Dry Martini and Sparkling Water Chaser
The difference being the cost of the water which runs something like $0.75 per liter giving a total cost of $45.45 and a cost per drink of about $0.65. You could even bump it up to premium vodka and keep it under a dollar.
Huh. Interesting to know. It might be time to switch to martinis with sparkling water. Heck, even throw in a few olives. They're good for you.

Date: 2008-07-10 07:28 am (UTC)If I had to choose between decent beer and a dry martini, I'd have to know what I had been doing and what the temperature was; for example, we were on the north side of the Sonoma square last night, when it was about 100F, at the Swiss Hotel. Lin took a beer (Sierra Nevada Pale), I took a martini, because I had been looking forward to a Martini for the previous two week while we cared for Lin's mom in suburbian Buffalo.
