The Irrelevance of the Hugo Awards for SF

Go ahead and laugh at the Hugos. Laugh, complain, groan, and rant. Call all the nominators "doodyheads" and "ignoramuses" who live up to your low expectations. And keep posting about them and making more people aware of them. That's exactly the way to make them irrelevant. And then come back next year to rant at the people who buy memberships saying exactly what they should nominate.

Me, I'm going to throw some popcorn and enjoy the show. Even when what I want to win doesn't take the prize it and amusing thing to watch. Because that's my role. To watch, and mock, and laugh.. at everything including myself. But especially the kvetching people who just hate, hate, hate the people of the SF ghetto. Yes, I'm laughing at you.

Oh he was hardly the only person I was aiming at, there are many, many others less famous but just as pompous complaining that this that or the other should have been nominated and that it didn't proves, proves they say that Science fiction is a ghetto. I doubt any of them have the google juice to be found easily though.

I'm certain it will die out, but before it dies out I can at least get a bowl of cherries and have a good fun laugh. Heck, if this little cherry stone has the effect of rousing the critics for another round of bitter denunciation for my entertainment, all the better. It would amuse me.
