I love the smell of a open wood fire. I would like a cologne that smelled of it, but I suppose that that would be a near much unique preference born of fond camping memories. It makes me think of simple food eaten after days spent in activities like hiking, chopping wood, fishing, and otherwise spending time under the sun in physical enjoyment. They were some great meals for all their plainness and along with long times spent stirring the fires getting my hair and coat full of the warm smell.

So now I'm sitting here with the scent of wood smoke curling around me from the fire barrel. The party at Owl House was very nice for me, though now my throat feels its hard use. My cake was good, though next time I might actually put in a bit more nutmeg. The champagne I had was nice, though I ended up drinking more of the bottle than I intended. Plus a stout, a whisky, and an amaretto sour it was a quite alcohol soaked evening. But I didn't over do it and I was well sober by three in the morning when I finally left.

I got to wear my cool jeans with leather flames on them and a super comfortable tee-shirt. Flirted with guys, chatted with lots of people, ate great food, and all around had a grand time.

Oh by the way, the Unitarian Jihad is showing up as a subject of conversation beyond the internet and there was some discussion of our names.

A possible scent that can come close to smoke-scent is the essential oil vetivert. It's distilled from a grass (root?) commonly grown in S.E. Asia, and has deep woody/smoky notes in the odor. You might find it overpowering on its own, but perhaps some experimentation with lighter scents might yield a pleasant result. A bit of cheap vodka is good as a "base", a carrier for the essential oil. Frankinscense might be too sweet (and dear!), as well as nearly as base a note as the vetivert; a citrus essential oil might brighten it up a bit, but watch out on sunny days.

Crazy(and rambling)Soph

PS was just thinking, when you said:

... that a reference or two might have been fun. Sorry to sound nag-ish about this, I know how hard somethings can be to keep track of.

The past few days have been very good for the Unitarian Jihad (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2005/04/08/DDG27BCFLG1.DTL). That column appeared on Friday, and Bill Humphries (http://homepage.mac.com/whump/ujname.html) put up his name generator Friday night, and then it really took off.

I think the country is ready for Radical Reasonableness.

Yours,

The only person who I remember for sure talking about the Unitarian Jihad was Rebecca Lee. She was Sister Spiky Mace of Loving Kindness I think. There was a Brother Atomic Bomb of something there.

Sounds like a good time. Maybe I'll come to the next one?
