Well I have this CD. Thomas Newman's music to A Series of Unfortunate Events. I really, really enjoy the last track except for the fact that the last 25 seconds or so has a skipping problem. This is obviously because my CD is scratched due to buying it used. Unfortunately I only noticed after the time to return it for an exchange had passed. So any suggestions on what to do? I'm willing to try most anything because I won't be out anything should I destroy it. Anyone had any success with any particular technique or service?

I love that disk. I'm not sure what you can do, other than buy one of those "disk repair" machines. They strip down a tiny bit of the disk.

But, I just u/l'ed the last track for you.

Thanks! That totally worked until I fixed my CD.

I've had pretty good luck with 409 and some soft cloths. Usually not enough to take out major scratches but enough to make it play enough to rip. [for me usually one CD player/drive will play it and that's enough to get the bits off...]

I'd rip the whole CD to your computer and then reburn it. That being said, I've tried one of those CD repair kits and it did work fairly well.

I've also heard that polishing a CD with Turtle Wax works, but I haven't tried that myself.

Most of the used video games stores I've been in will have the machines to take the scratches out of cds and game disks, if you ask they might run it through for free or a small charge.

Oooo, this sounds like a winner. I had not thought of game stores, I'd just checked at Cheapo and they did not seem to have anything like that sitting out.
