So last week at my favorite restaurant I had a problem. After breakfast I had the sudden urge and the resulting movement was as near to watery as possible without having some nasty disease. Not good. This week same restaurant and a heroic amount of iced tea. I was totally 100% fine all Sunday. So I make inquiries and a websearch. Turns out in some people coffee, even the decaf kind, has a laxative effect. I would guess that I am one of those people.

There are some people who are tea people. And I am one of them.

I sometimes have that problem as well (though not as badly as what you seem to have had), but I can't help it - I love coffee. Tea's good too, but mmmmm, coffee...

Well I did have something like five or six cups before it kicked in. But I might never have it again in amounts larger than the bit in khalua (sp?). I actually like tea a lot more than coffee and this is all the excuse I need to cut it out of my diet.

I know it makes me a bad Colombian, but, I HATE coffee. Yuck.( Then again, I don’t care for drugs, either.)

When I visit my parents, I can’t eat breakfast with them unless my mother has the vent over her oven on to suck the smell out of the kitchen. Many coffee shops make me nauseous just by smell.

I think the stuff is vile, if not downright evil. So it doesn’t surprise me that is has very unpleasant results for some people who ingest it.

I like tea better, anyway. So it is not a huge loss to me. Speaking of which I need a fresh cup.

Poor you!!! I found last year that coffee was giving me bad migranes (not suprising seeing as I had it very very strong and lots). So I had to give it up - I still have the occassion cup and try and have tea instead. But basically I have swapped for just water (my favourite tipple from a kid). As for tummy issues - well I suffer from IBS so I wouldnt' have noticed much anyway.....

This would be a lot harder on me if I really *liked* coffee. But I actually prefer the taste of tea for the most part. And it does not seem to be something where if I have just one cup I want to die, though I am going to conduct an experiment to be sure on that score.

So more tea for me. I'm having a cup of Darjeeling right now. And I need an icon of me drinking tea.

what is it in coffee though that causes it? I mean I'll try to avoid a lot of caffine all together cause I'll randomly get dehydrated...

I would guess that it is one of the oils in coffee that does it. It certainly isn't the caffeine, because other caffeinated drinks do not affect me in ways other than making me hyper/less sleepy.

It certainly is a good idea to not take too much caffeine. I keep my intake under about the equivalent of three cups of tea a day. And never-ever after 4pm.

I've never had mate vana tea. I'll have to look it up.
