Cheese Review: Rauchkäse
May. 15th, 2004 05:36 pmLovely soft cheese, rather like a havarti or some other semi-soft cheese, but it has a lovely smoked flavor over the mild cheese. Like pine trees in a campfire rather than some other wood. It also has some very small holes between the curds, not like the big round ones of a swiss, but more like the bit of space in a havarti or tilsit. I review this smoked cheese as very nice unlike some other smoked cheeses I've had. The particular brand is "Basils Original Rauchkäse". It goes very well with a nice toothsome whole grain bread or with some round wheat crackers.
