I'm not cut out to be a vegetarian. Today I tried eating just rice and some vegetables and I got the worst stomachache I've had in a good long while. I remember now why I stopped having oatmeal for breakfast even though I like it. I have a new theory, unless I have something with my grains, like meat or cheese, or something fatty I'll get a stomachache. I'll have to test this theory sometime when I don't mind feeling a bit uncomfortable for a while.

Meanwhile I'm going to have rice... with some bologna I was given by a neighbor.

Maybe you have a food allergy to certain grains. I know at least one person with a wheat allergy.

And I know a couple of celiacs. Worth looking into.

Yes, but I rather hope that isn't it. Assuming celiacs are what it sounds like to my ear. <checks> Yep, gluten thing, I was about right.

Further checking and I definately don't seem to have the symptoms described here (http://www.e-celiacs.org/2%20Celiac%20Disease_in_Adults.htm). I have some upper abdominal pain, but nothing else. No diarrhea or anemia.

Wheat seems to be a rather common alergy, but that isn't what seems to happen to me. Or at least I've never noticed any discomfort eating toast, rice cakes, or whatever. I seem to just have discomfort when I eat plain cooked grain without anything else. Though I shall have to do a few experiments to be sure.

I mean I've never had any trouble with sushi or anything else with rice. My working idea is that if I have rice with enough oil or fat I won't have this problem. I'm going to test it this next week sometime.

Rice

I'm assuming that you cooked the rice?? Actually, have you tried adding some oil to the cooked rice. Like a tablespoon of olive oil? Maybe there is not enough moisture which is making your stomach produce more acid? Just a thought.

Yes I did cook the rice, quite well actually. I did it in my crockpot because my stove is out of service. I didn't add olive oil, because I had not realized I would have this problem. I just was not thinking about possible problems at the time I started eating. I would asume there was more than enough mostiure since I drink a lot of water with every meal and I cooked the the rice with the proper ratio of two cups water (and a bit more) to one cup of rice.
