Thank you [livejournal.com profile] vincent_d! I now not only have a CD of music from The Adventures of Baron Münchhausen but also the music from The Last Unicorn (I'm listening to it now) and a copy of Hellboy: The Lost Army. Sqweee! Happy dance! Two of these items are out of print and the other is an import from Europe. The only thing that brought me down off my happy moment was some problems getting the Unicorn CD to play. Windows Media and my usual CD drive were not playing well with whatever deeply stupid copy protection scheme Virgin had put on it. But iTunes play it using my other drive, the one that is specificically meant for burning CDs.

Random sidenote, anyone seeing me as a boy might have suspected I was gay. I had a thing for unicorns and rainbows. I had unicorn posters, note books, and even a brass belt buckle. (I wonder where it is these days...) And I loved drawing castles with rainbows over them. I really loved this movie and the book. Listening to this takes me back.

if that's Das Leizte Einhorn & you can't rip it, let me know. I have a copy already ripped from a cd that I bought in the '80s

I usually don't rip CDs because they take up too much space on my (tiny) hard drive. I only have about 20gigs of space in my computer. Thanks for the offer though. iTunes dealt with it just fine, I was curious and wanted to test it. I then moved the resulting files to my external drive and iTunes plays off of that just fine. Though I don't know how many more files I would want to put over there.

I've never understood why homosexual==camp. My gay friends tend to be camp, but is that by nature or to conform to stereotype.

I'm not sure either, but I have an untested hypothesis. I think it is one part of the nature of being homosexual. Most male homosexuals display what is considered in our culture to be sex inappropriate play, such as playing with dolls, when a child. But only about a third of children who do so turn out to be homosexual. We don't stay playing with dolls, but we move on to other rather feminine choices later in life. But the hetrosexual males who might otherwise be right there enjoying show tunes, dressing up, romantic comedies, or whatever are usually not brave enough to go against societal expectations.

Gay men (who are out) usually lose their fear as being seen as gay so we don't do as much self censorship. Though, of course, when speaking of humans there are exceptions in behavior both ways. Very butch gay men who aren't trying to live upto a butch idea, they just are that way, and heterosexual men who are just naturally very feminine and don't care what anyone thinks.

The same sorts of things are true for women, but since about the 1970s there has been less pressure on women to be feminine all the time (though there still is some).

I've noticed that gay men in other parts of the world don't act that trope. It seems to be mostly a Anglo-Euro set of behaviors.

What other parts of the world? Because with a few exceptions (maybe Japan) I think men acting in a stereotypically feminine way is even less culturally acceptable than here. Plus outside the industrialized countries homosexuals have to hide for fear of life and limb.

The trope I was speaking of is "acting in a stereotypically feminine way". Your right too, being gay & out or even in the closet can and does get you killed in many countries. The Arab Muslim states are notorious for this and most of Africa is just as bad.
