Page 171: I am starting to laugh uncontrollably at the drama unfolding. I suspect Terry Goodkind fans are gathering with torches and heading for Elizabeth. I only can hope that the snow and my mocking will prove too hard a barrier for them to cross.

Page 173: I'm laughing at the death of the night wisp. Die with the taste of love! Hee!

Page 175: Boy, he's really determined to not bother anyone even when he's got a deadly wound. Must be midwestern rather than of the Westlands. Think of Frodo with the same idea, "Oh I don't want to bother Sam about this knife wound the Nasgul gave me."

Page 194: I wish I had a fever like the POV character in the book. Then I'd be enjoying this more.

Page 217: And to even a dunce it is now obvious what the POV is, the all important seeker. Thank you for that plot coupon. Gotta collect them all!

What a wretched book this was. When I read it, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought he would surely improve his writing style/plot/dialogue/characterization in his second book. I made it midway through the third before I stopped and vowed never to touch anything he wrote ever again.

So... I guess your advice would be to only keep going if I'm getting enough humor value from it?

It's quite funny if you take the approach of "let's see what ridiculous ideas Goodkind has about sex". At one point (spoiler!), he goes through about 50 pages of setup in order to have two of his characters accidentally rape each other. It's okay, they thought they were raping two completely different people! Then there's all sorts of agita as they consider what this does to their relationship.

That's when I quit, incidentally. Maybe it became a compelling work of American contemporary fiction after that, but I somehow doubt it.

I don't think I could stick with it long enough to see that. Heck, I don't think I'm going to get much further than page 250. Oh well, onto a trashy vampire novel.

I think I got a third of the way in before I swore off his books forever.

I kept seeing his name around. I assumed he must have something going for him. Oh well, onto Princess of Mars and The Vampirates.
