I went to Writers With Drinks at the Make Out Room on 22nd west of Mission last night. It was a hoot and a half. I found the readings quite enjoyable and unlike as most readings I was not compulsively hiding while I listened, I blame the alcohol. I had a "white russian" followed up by a Lost Coast Belgian White beer. The later was okay, the first was much better. I met interesting people, including Cary who could not stop talking about how cute I was. I did not mind being called cute, but I suspect she was drunk based on the fact that she had to say it over and over. Plus she pulled me in for kisses despite the big ol' gay thing. She was fun.

We got there late. Bay Bridge + Saturday Night + Holidays = Great Traffic Sadness. [livejournal.com profile] cynthia1960 and I saw you on the sidewalk afterwards, but you were heading off with the aforementioned Cary (I think.)

Well gosh darn. Yeah we went off to a bar with drag queens over on Hayes (I think). That was fun too.

I love those names! What sort of readings were they? Genre, poetry, a mix?

I had a "white russian" followed up by a Lost Coast Belgian White beer.

I know what a White Russian is, but I've never heard of LCBW. Is that a brewery, a description, or a combination thereof?

And it's probably not the best thing to mix spirits and beer. I think you can make an exception for whiskey (since it's made from the same grains that go into beer), but vodka + beer = bad combination, generally.

I did not mind being called cute

That's good. :)

but I suspect she was drunk based on the fact that she had to say it over and over.

Either that, or she thought that the word "cute" was insufficient on its lonesome and had to be fortified through repetition. ;)

Plus she pulled me in for kisses despite the big ol' gay thing.

Who was it - Gary Larson in "The Far Side", perhaps - who had a running gag called People Unclear On The Concept?

She was fun.

They're always fun until they become psycho stalkers. ;)

Seriously, I'm glad to hear that you got out and had a good time.

Charlie Anders, WWD's Host, describes it as "spoke word" variety. So on a given night you'll get your RDA of poetry, smut, genre fiction, non-fiction, and literary fiction. Charlie's introductions for each writer are legendary improvised tall-tales.

Oh she's not the psycho stalker sort, besides I could have said no to it. She was so nice though that it was hard. How do I do things like that to myself? Eh. Anyways I'll have to go see her at Boarderlands.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Yeah, it's basically your common or garden variety show type deal. More details at http://www.writerswithdrinks.com. And Carrie is really good people. :)

Sounds like the kind of thing our own local writers do (http://www.writers-bloc.org.uk/). But a venue called "The Make Out Room" sounds rather more fun than "downstairs at the Canon's Gait"....

And the LCGW (http://www.mylifeisbeer.com/beer/bottles/bottledetail/256/) sounds good, too!

[Um, used "sounds" four times in as many sentences.... Bad [livejournal.com profile] akicif!]
