When something turns into a dreaded task that threatens depression when the time comes for its completion it is a sign that the reasons for doing it need to be reevaluated. What I did not want to do was to come up with places to visit and write another account of what happened at the past two meetings. What it comes down to is that I would rather be a soldier than a general and I am not good at structure and consistancy in my personal life. Yet the only reason FIG is happening every Sunday is because I organize things to the extent that they are organized. In other words I let the simple project of getting together a few friends for brunch mutate into a project to start a fannish group in the north bay and I am not the type of personality that is good to lead things like that.

So this is the last FIG Letter. I'm going to Crepes on Cole this Sunday and if anyone wishes to join me around 11am, that's okay. If not that is fine too. When I get back from Yaoi-Con this month I am going to just start regularly going to the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf on Market Street next to the exit from the Powel BART/MUNI station. I will be there each Sunday when I can make it at about 10am and I will be leaving sometime around 11:00am either to find a real brunch or else to just adventure around the bay. People are free to join me or not as their preference takes them.

Perhaps a short FiG report for inclusion in SF/SF every second week would be less draining (as you don't have to write up everything)...

Why would I want to do that?

dunno, masochism, maybe?

I've actually started writing for SF/SF; my Vintacon report is being published there and I've asked Chris if he wants a Yaoicon report.

Part of the reason I like livejournal is that there are no schedules for me to meet except my own. If my Yaoi Con report comes in years late, so be it. If no one reads me because I am highly irregular in my output I don't have to notice or care unlike if I was either producing something for someone else's 'zine or making my own. In other words lj is perfect for me because I am a very mercurial person who might not feel like writing something this week. No deadlines! None! I am never going to spend 10 hours a week working, or avoiding work, to make sure there are two hours of fun come Saturday at the SF club. I am not a professional writer, I am not doing this for money. Holding myself to professional standards in content and spelling is just fine, but in putting things out as if I were the editor of my own pocket sized SF&F? Forget it, that is a lot of work and I do this to have fun.

Sorry

...that this has turned into a pain for you. It is a worthwhile sort of idea and perhaps someone else will pick it up.

I am also apologizing (as it were) for not being there this week (or next) either; unavoidable non-reschedulable Stuff has intervened.

Which exit from Powell St. station? There are, you know, several.

D.

I do not know how to describe which exit it is. And don't worry about next time, I'm going to be a Yaoi Con anyway.
