In Denver I had things down. I knew where I could get cheap bulk foods (Vitamin Cottage), where I could get good and inexpensive liver sausage (King Soopers), and where I could get those normally very expensive cheeses for 50% off regularly (Sunflower Market). Here in this new city I don't know any of those things yet and I don't know much of anyone who could tell me.

I was also thinking about renting in the shower this morning and realized that commuting in this city from the east bay would cost me at least $180 a month not to mention time lost. Living outside San Francisco probably isn't a good option if I can find a decent room in the city. No luck so far on that front. I've contacted a fair number of people posting on craigslist and only one of them turned into seeing the room and I've not been able to contact him again (and I liked the room he had).

Work yesterday was difficult, but then it is most days. About to run off there again.

[livejournal.com profile] cadhla might be a good person to ask, as a longtime native who's into many of those same Good Things for Little Money.

Rainbow Market should be okay for food. Sausage should be possible in the immigrant soviet/russian community that has established itself to the northwest of GGPark, in the avenues. Iceblink will have directions if you drop her a note, and she has friends in SF that live on a budget like Dragonspirit who might know more. Daly City has a BART stop, so think about going south as well as east to live.
Yea, it can be tough here. I'm sorry things aren't being smooth.

Unless a place way out there was much cheaper than here, more than $180 a month less for a room (which is what I can afford right now, I'm only making $15 a hour) it just would not be worth it at all. Living a 15 minute walk from work I still have to get up a mininum of 2 hours ahead to get out the door in good order. If Had a 45 minute commute on top of that? Not even going to consider it.

I've already pointed you at [livejournal.com profile] trolleypup, haven't I? He's got lots of public transportation experience. ;-)

[livejournal.com profile] ataniell93 is also from SF.

Well, yes. Let's just say that she's very opinionated - her current major area of interest is Harry Potter fandom - and can be abrasive. But she can also be quite helpful!

It will take time to get all that stuff worked out for your new location. Don't think of it as being lost (scary!), think of it as an opportunity to explore (fun!).
