Camping and Fishing
Jul. 28th, 2005 08:53 amI just spent the last three days, more or less, up at Steamboat Lake State Park with my parents. It went pretty well. The first half-day (and half a day of driving up) was Sunday the 24th. I even went out and got in some fishing before dark after getting camp (if it can be called that with a 5th-Wheel type camper) set up. No fish that night though, just a fair amount of weed caught on the hooks as we troaled the far end of the lake.
I caught one fish late on the second day out and two on the third, both on the same excursion out onto the lake. I didn't go fishing on the morning of the fourth day because I didn't feel like it what with my minor sunburn and wanting to get packed up. Just as well, they didn't catch anything then. My father only caught one fish and my mother got two. They were all big though. My first one was 16 inches and my second two were 13 and 14 inches. That's big for rainbow trout and they also had nice dark salmon flesh.
My only regret is that I didn't grab my camera when I saw this beautiful shot. Sun barely visible through the fog and a crow on the dead top of a tree. Beautiful moment. Also unfortunate that my dad only got one fish, it was his birthday Monday.
