Dream Log: Pathetic Vampires
Jul. 20th, 2005 12:50 pmI dreamed that I knew a writer who'd written a pair of vampire novels set in the Rocky Mountains. I liked them and she liked me so she'd offered to read the one I was busy writing. And as the dream progressed into the story I was writing I found myself in the action. Vampires in this novel mostly lived pathetic lives. I was using bus stations to get around when I wasn't using a Subaru so ancient that it broke down regularly. The bus station was interesting though. Part of a huge downtown Denver complex that was being investigated for the corruption involved in its building. It had a big clock tower made of ribbed concrete. Though it was nearly useless to bus travelers being almost right above the terminal and so we'd go so a north door to look at one of two clocks over other buildings in or near downtown. Both advertised Coca-Cola.
Eventually I used my pathetic Subaru, once it was working, to go to southwest Colorado. There I encountered a "master" vampire who made his subjects sing along to his rock songs as if they were hymns. Not very good ones either, but none of the assorted sous chefs, night watchmen, and so on would do anything but humor him.
I needed to look up the lyrics myself, not that I was going to sing, so I snuck off to look them up. And to do that I used a combination computer and pneumatic tube delivery system that I wondered how it was practical even as I dreamed it. And soon after I woke up.
