Three trees down, one more to come down and one and a half to cut up then. It's amazing that 45 cm diameter of wood represents nearly 100 years of growth. Or at least around here it does. And then one porcupine can come along, top the tree in a stressful year, and the next year there is a dead tree in the yard that needs to be made into 100 years of firewood. There is one other tree nearby that might be a bit bigger. I'd guess that it would be about 110 years old. Just a guess though. Anyone got a tree core thingy I can play with?

Most of the trees out here are more in the 40 cm or less range (16 inches). Going by another tree we cut down today that represents about 75 years. I'd guess that this land was logged out mostly and then was rangeland until the great depression. Then the ranchers didn't pay as much attention to keeping it clear and the trees started growing up. Now it is overgrown and so we'll probably keep having trees that shatter in snowstorms, get taken out by bugs, or so on. The ponderosas really should be between 3 and 4 meters apart to be healthy and there are a lot of places where there is one every meter and a half.

Oh and you do actually want me in your group when fleeing zombies. I actually do know how to operate a chainsaw safely and effectively. I've just never had a reason to mention it before. <whuuuurn, whuuuurn, whurn, whurn>

For some reason I'm not entirely clear on, I've never thought of you as doing manly things with power tools before now. I'm glad to be proven wrong - it adds dimension to your character.

I can also change the oil in my car, build fences, and make a nice tight grouping in a target with a 45-automatic. I'm like a parfait, I've got layers. <grin> I should write more about my non-typical behavior. Hope I see you Saturday.
