"Oh shit."

"What's wrong Jan?"

He stared in shock at the offending piece of mail he'd ripped into just a minute before. "I've got a letter here from the Department of Evolution declaring me unfit."

"Whoa, let me see that." Loren snatched the letter from his hands. In the classic monospace type font it read:

From: The Impersonal Forces of Nature
      Department of Evolution

To:   Januz "Jan" Alojz Sobeski, well dressed twit.

We regret to inform you that you have been selected against.  Please 
be prepared to die painfully without issue sometime in the next one 
to twenty years if you do not make arrangements prior to that event.

"Does nature have something against my purple hair? I can change that."

"No I suspect this is about you going out into a raging blizzard in a fit of pique and having a hallucination while freezing to death in a snowbank."

Jan opened his eyes. The snow was still coming down thickly...
