Bookstacks in Mishalak's parents' basement.I'm going to get into town this weekend to pick up stuff for my on going reorganization of the giant book pile. Speaking of which that's the beast over there to the left in the picture, obviously this is going to take a while to get into order.

So to get relief from the unrelenting task of shelving, repairing, cleaning, and ultimately putting them in a database I'm going to town early on Saturday. I plan on visiting the Tattered Cover or another store to get mylar book covers. Possibly get the Japanese noodle content of my blood up, and then visit grandmother and cook/clean for her. In the evening I have a choice. Either I could stay with her up in Bergen Park and make my way down for brunch on Sunday or else go to someone else's place and crash there after a fun evening.

Sunday will be brunch at a private home for a change. Perhaps I could also foist the DASFA tee shirts off on Rose. Then I don't know what to do with the rest of my day.

So any suggestions on things to do on a weekend in town?

Uh... free things? Not many. The art museum used to have one free day a week - Sunday? Might call them.

The Botanic Gardens are wonderful and awesome, but you have to pay to get in. We bought a single membership (purchaser can take one guest on every visit), it's cheaper that way if you go more than a few times a year.

For cheap yakisoba, awesome soup, and other inexpensive Japanese food, try Taki's on Colfax at Grant, northwest corner (intersection with the big damn church on the northeast corner).

Been to DPL lately?

Thanks for the suggestions. Mostly though I'm looking for people to hang out with. Mostly with the internet and all these darn books I'm totally entertained out here, I just see an average of just one person a day. Which I suppose is no different than hiding out in my apartment, but it feels different because this is enforced by geography and population density.

Good luck! I haven't tackled that project yet, all of my books are still in storage from when I moved a few months ago.

It feels good to be getting it done.

Noodles? Could you stand us, and Maya? I'm never sure about these things, but...

That possible. Did you see Bill's suggestion of where to eat?

Taki's is good but I think that trying it out with Maya aboard wouldn't be worth it. It has good inexpensive Japanese food, and I eat there occasionally.

Where do you think it would work out with Maya?

For what it's worth, I hear from Amy Singer that there's such a thing as a hand-held scanner that comes with software for databasing the scans, which allows you to just scan the bar code on the book and the software will then pull all the author/title/publisher/pub date etc. off the web for you, thus saving an amazing amount of data entry time. I think the cost is about $100 or a little over. I haven't done it yet, but this seems incredibly worth it to me.

Would be cool. But a lot of my books are pre-barcode. Like all those reading copy book club editions. And that's where it would do the most good too. On the mass of books I don't expect to make a lot of money one and so should not spend much time cataloging.

Tammy and I are running the board game section of Ben Con this weekend - it's at the Sheridan Four Points, where all the non-media cons are. (I-25 & Hampden).

C'mon by and see is if you get a chance - you don't need a badge to just wander about, just to play games. We've got our cells.
