It was a grand party. Just absolutely grand. Good company, a good game, good food, good beer, and good conversation. We were all over at [livejournal.com profile] friendly_drelb's house for the DASFA February Alternate party. First there was cooking, I arrived after the vast majority of cleaning was done. Rose was at the vacuum cleaner stage by the time I got there. So there I was helping her make chocolate chip cookies... without benefit of an electric mixer. I actually noticed later that I managed to raise a small blister while creaming the butter with the sugar. Doing things like this always makes me appreciate the wonderful ease of modern life. And it is fun to do things the old way in of itself as well. Rather like climbing a mountain even though there is no good reason to do it.

So cookies. And they were good, if a bit flat due to using real butter in a recipe that was probably intended to be primarily for shortening and okay for butter. Butter has a higher set temperature or something. Or maybe it is the water content. I do need to pass on my favorite cookie recipe to Rose though. She might like it.

Eventually we had people showing up to make valentines day stuff. I made something, but I'm going to wait on saying what so that the person I'm sending it to might be at least a little bit surprised. Rose often has us, Carol, Maya, Kaia, etc. doing creative things similar to projects from grade school. I'll do a post on the 14th telling about what I did.

At the party I got to have two British beers brought by [livejournal.com profile] vicarage. One was a Chocolate Stout (from Young's I think) and the other was a Porter. Both were good, but I didn't write down the labels so I can't say what their names where. As we were approaching the end of that I brought in some New Belgian Springboard (Chinese herbs and light on the hops, very well balanced light ale) and Fort Collins Chocolate Stout (very similar to Youngs, but I was too far gone to do a proper taste test). There was excellent conversation and two of my new friends were greatly enjoying themselves.

Finally there was the World's Greatest Party Game and I decided to head for home instead of crashing on the couch at 2am. I had vague notions that I'd be needed at home and that I wouldn't feel totally comfortable at the superbowl party planned elsewhere the next day.
