Why, oh, why do people pick unreadable journal styles? There are more than a few people I was interested in and gave up on because their journal was too difficult to read to see if I would like to read them regularly. I won't single them out for laughing and mocking; instead I'll mock some communities with similar problems.

Bright Fuchsia on Bright Blue Not only is it unreadable they also use a huge graphic that doesn't go well colorwise with the text boxes floating in front of it. And the link text is nearly invisible. That's a near blue on blue. Idiots. But then it is a group for Colorado Youth and youths almost always choose "way cool colors" over readability or looking good. It's nearly as amusing as the blue on blue scheme used by this group. Dude doesn't that just set a mood? <laugh>

Black text on Purple I'm a strong advocate of using a white or just off white background for black text. This shows exactly why. It is way too close in hue to read easily even when the text is increased in size. As an aside why is it that so many gay lj users do the black text on purple or fuchsia thing? *sigh*

I've also been pleasantly surprised by how many goth groups actually used decent color schemes. There are some that verge on being difficult by using colored text on black, but that one despite the huge graphics that make it slow to load is still readable because they used a bright form of the color rather than a solid 00FF00 sort. But most either used white on black or black on white. Whoa.

On the other hand this is a classic newbie goth mistake. Dark Purple on Black which is even worse than the other way around in my opinion. How can anyone read that? The only way it could be worse would be like this one journal I saw that used brown text on black. What was he thinking? I didn't see anything that bad in my quick perusal.

And what's up with this? Little tiny text and all of it over in a narrow column to the left. I don't get what the point of using over half a computer screen to display flat black space is. Even worse is this group that uses yellow on blue, a readable if not great choice, and then crams all the text into an even tinier box with a itty bitty font.
