I'm not going to see Episode III. I swore I wouldn't go see Episode II and then I got the offer of seeing it for free. So I went to see it figuring it couldn't be that bad for free. Nope. I was so wrong.

It won't be better this time, it never is. Every time George Lucas touches Star Wars he sucks a little more life out of his unintentional masterpiece.

I didn't see Episode II. But I'm hearing good things about Episode III. I'm leery, but I think I'm going to go see it.

Yeah; I know. I know.

But reviews like this give me pause:

Never, never believe reviewers who get into special advanced screenings unless they heave a history of not being caught up in excitement of a crowd. I remember the glowing reviews of the American Godzilla that came out of the New York screening. Plus I've seen the trailers and they say to me "over hyped junk with lousy special effects" just like the last two.

I've seen all of Star Wars I want to see unless George Lucas comes out with an unaltered trilogy. Well I suppose I might consider going to see it in a dollar theater in six months to mock it. Unless people I know say they enjoyed it (and not people who liked Return of the King) I'm not changing my mind.

Ah, but the American version of Godzilla did have one redeeming feature... Matthew Broderick. ;)

I didn't sit through the whole thing. Was he nearly naked at any point? Because if he wasn't it wasn't worth it.

Broderick

I wouldn't go so far as to say redeeming... Godzilla really was pretty horrible, and I don't know if adding the cast of Naked Boys Singing as a Greek chorus would have redeemed it.

Well, maybe.

Give it twenty minutes or so. <grin>

I'll just check around livejournal in a few days or so. I mean it isn't like the movie will leave theaters any time soon.

I forget when it's coming out. I'm not home until the end of the month, and it's not like I had any intention of seeing it opening weekend.

(I presume from your comment that it is opening this weekend.)

I don't want to see it. At this point it wouldn't matter to me if it was utter genius, because I'm sick to death of Star Wars, Star Trek, and everything else that generated latter-twentieth-century cinematic fanboy blockbuster mania of any kind.

I'm really sick of Lucas. At this point he's nothing but an excuse for Philistine Pride Month. He irritates me the same way Michael Jackson does, as a massive bloated irrelevancy who's blocking the road with his stinking carcass.

Not that I'm a bitter man...

Oh yes I can tell you're not bitter. Not at all. Hey sometime we should go to a dollar movie. Or maybe an independent one. If your busy dad life doesn't interfere.

Or at least go out to lunch before I move out of town.
