Future Yet
Nov. 29th, 2004 01:27 pmUntil the earth drifts silently a burnt cinder in the dark, after the last of the stars have burned out, after the sun has grown to a huge angry red, after the last perfect day, we may yet live on through vast eons of time. Could it be so? Will we after long ages outlive the race that gave us birth and walk on in the everlasting darkness; the last monument to the human race; the vampire? Or will we be eradicated as smallpox was by men seeking to make humanity safe? Who can say? And is it an enviable fate to live on into those times, slowly starving? Or will with cunning artifice might we be there eating stars alongside the voracious maws of our cousins the frozen stars? I cannot say yet, but I hope to walk on a while longer and see the wonders that are yet to be built. –Jon Garland
