I fried up the other half of a block of tofu today. The previous half went into miso soup. After a good amount of time with the olive oil there was pretty serious browning over the tofu and I added half a chopped up onion and Worcestershire sauce. But it still lacked something even when I'd put enough sauce in to make it medium brown. So I added two shots of port wine and a few pinches of salt. It has a satisfying tooth feel, it resists when I bite it, and a rich flavor. I shall have to experiment to see if it can be improved upon. Slight sour flavor, probably from the wine.

Hmm... I would have used a small amount of miso, and some garlic, if I was doing this. It's looks as if you were after something else, can you say what seemed to be lacking and/or what you were shooting for? Wine, Worcestershire sauce, and onions sounds vaguely British.

Yep that's where I was headed with this dinner plate. I may try again sometime soon. British food of the dystopian future. <grin>
