The Beaver Continues to Build

The last time I checked there was just one beaver dam on the creek near my little home. Now there are three and the start of a fourth. It does not show on google maps (link), but has been there for almost a year now. It is quite interesting to see the progress of the dam and the changes in the vegetation in response to browsing. I hope the Denver Parks Department will be able to manage this urban wildlife so they do not have to be relocated.

I love how beaver dams change the ecologies in which they are created. It's fascinating.

It totally is. The fact that I have such an area about a five minute walk away is a nice luxury. I may goose the natural succession slightly by planting some wild blue flag iris in the newly moist areas.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea, and blue flag iris is a wonderful native plant.

I was amazed to see beavers in urban Boulder. Perhaps you can add it to Open Street Map!

A good suggestion, though I hesitate to get involved in most online projects. Though I wonder if you have a favorite picture hosting site. I have pictures of the beaver I want to share on dreamwidth.
