Am I getting good value for time and money out of fandom? So far this week I've spent lots of money (I don't know how much yet) and most of my time on the World Science Fiction Convention. There have been good moments and conversations that I would not have had if I had stayed away, but I have spent so much upon them that I feel suckered. The fact that I am angry with myself over stupid mistakes I've made probably does not make my thinking on the subject any more rational and I realize that I may feel differently later. But right now I am quite unhappy that I am involved at all.

My reason for going was/is to find new people who've not connected with DASFA before so that the club can be a bit more active. But is this a good way to spend my time and my (an many other) fans' money? Well their money is their business, but should I be involved? At this moment, having just returned from a second trip downtown due to my faulty memory, I really want to get away from it all. What the hell am I doing with my life? I'm burning myself out not having fun for the purpose of having fun.

You've got con burn-out. Get enough sleep, get enough food, and get enough water -- you very much sound as if you're short on at least one of the above. And get enough quiet time away from other people and from noise. I speak from experience on that one, as I can get remarkably cranky if I can't retreat to a quiet room with no noise and nobody expecting my attention for an hour a day at a con.

Yeah, I'm going to go ditto on what the other responder said. Don't go into the con early - spend some time at home, relaxing, drinking coffee, and spending a little quiet time with Ritchie. *then* go into the convention in the afternoon and enjoy it more. AT least now you're not in charge of any more parties - I think that was a good idea, having DASFA on Thursday and being done with it!

Can't. I have to be there to continue with the LJM guest liaison stuff no later than 11.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the party I was able to make it to - I loved the smoothies. I was sorry not to make it to another (I wanted to see these vats of iced tea for myself :) ).

I did make it up to the 22nd floor after the Anticipation/Nippon party shut down, but [livejournal.com profile] bovil and [livejournal.com profile] kproche invited me into their room and by the time I left, it was bedtime. (Well, way past bedtime... it was about 4AM.)

Of course, I wouldn't have gotten you to your goal of recruiting more people for DASFA...
