Right. Time to do some promotion. My favorite vampire novel of all time is not well known. It has never been made into a movie or gotten rave reviews from legions of fans. I love it for the way it treats its villains and heroes. I love how it doesn't pull its punches; things don't come out perfect at the end. That isn't to say that it is a downer story, but it is about change, not perfection.
Also it is a book in love with the city of Toronto. It made me really want to visit someday. It is The Night Inside by Nancy Baker. It was re-released under the title Kiss of the Vampire.
The first time I read it I was working my way through the books at the Parker Public Library alphabetically and checking out anything that looked interesting. I found a lot of authors that I like that way, including Barbara Hambly. I was rather disappointed to learn that though she published a sequel and another work in the same world (which I need to get sometime soon, but they are hard to find. Blood and Chrysanthemums and A Terrible Beauty. I wish she had gone on to publish more works, perhaps moving beyond vampires. But I am very glad she wrote the works she did, and I've got to get firsts of her two later books if I can.
