The other day I had this crazy idea. Since some of my favorite comics had come to an end I started actually going out and seeing new ones rather than just waiting for someone to recommend them. This was among the worst ideas I've ever had. The first thing that was wrong with this idea was that I had no idea how many useless crap comics were out there.

For example:
:+: Vampire's Curse :+:, yes those cute punctuation marks are in the title. It starts out as a pretentious vampire fight story and gets worse from there. A wonderful example of the style of dialogue is this gem, "SHUT UP! YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT VAMPIRES!" Then the captive grabs him for a kiss and the vampire stammers, "W-what are you doing?!!" I skipped ahead after reading as much of the beginning as I could stand and I will say this, she has improved into doing a perfect imitation of the hack manga style, minimal lines, big eyes, nearly indistinguishable willowy bodies. Really it was the " No flames plzzz" thing in her comics description that made me bother to review this comic.

5 Universe, a steaming pile of crap done in classic D&D drama style. Stiff over dramatic dialogue right out of an Inuasha episode pen with the same lack of plot as an old Pokemon episode. The art style improves from unbearable to mostly crap.

9ine Lives, good art (mostly, but we all have off days). Cat like boys characters, incomprehensible plot, characters flying in and out without much introduction. Radical changes in art style periodically. Reads right to left in the Japanese style, which I find pretentious for an English language comic. It is new so there is hope that it might develop into something worth reading at some point.

Adam and Sei Bad chibi style comic theoretically about two guys in a relationship. Total crap. Not funny, not artful, and not worth your time. I want my ten minutes back.

Adios Angel, 86 For the love of god, why? Pretentious fallen angle who grew up as human story. Low rez sketch book style, like something I might produce if I didn't have the sense to not do art. There might be promise for it since it is new. Hopefully by writing more and drawing more the artist can get out of some of more egregious habits.

All Roses Have Thorns. An even worse vampire luv comic than Vampire's Curse, nuff said. The art is nothing much to look at, but I would not mind if the writing were along the lines of "So much power, and so beautiful. I shall have a new lover and a new source of power." Bleaea.

Amazing New Worlds Good art, possibly a good story, but it just didn't grab me.

Angry Soul Okay art... But I just don't get it at all. I gave up after reading several dozen. Curses, magic, blah, blah, blah.

That's all I can stand to review for now. More later, maybe.

And you're only on the A's. Scary. :)

What kind of stuff do you like? A friend of mine has an online comic, but it might not be to your taste. It's about the artist himself, his boyfriend, and a small group of their friends. He occasionally throws some weird stuff in - there are periodic Trek references (including visits from Riker and occasional visits to the Mirror Universe).

I admit that it may be that I only enjoy it because he's a friend of mine and I know some of the others upon whom the characters are based.

If you want to check it out, you can see it here (http://dariansfriends.com/show.php?page=comics) or add [livejournal.com profile] dariansfriends to your LJ friendslist.

Read it. It was okay. Better that many webcomics, but it felt more like something I would love if I was part of Canadian fandom or something.

Really? It doesn't feel particularly Canadian to me. Maybe that's because a fish doesn't notice the water. ;)

No just that I would get it more if I knew the people involved.

Aha. That makes sense, yes.

If it makes you feel any better, I only know about half of them myself. I know Darian (aka [livejournal.com profile] cuteteenboy, of course, and Taka, Courtney, Xio and Justin. I've spoken to Kori once on the phone, when he was giving Darian a hard time over something while we were having a conversation. So I told him to put Kori on the phone so that I could tell him off. Naturally, Darian did what I told him to. ;)

A couple of weeks ago he hinted that he might add me as a character, but he hasn't yet (and I don't really expect him to).
