If, in theory, I were to go insane and try to form a SF Group in the city what should it be called? It would, in theory, meet on most Sunday mornings for breakfast/brunch and then high adventure.

I know about both of them. BASFA is in San Jose, which isn't even close to the city. In Colorado terms it would be like trying to get to Colorado Springs on a Monday night for a meeting without a car. No one from San Francisco goes down to BASFA.

And the SFSFC is just a group that puts on conventions, they don't really do the social things. And their next meeting isn't until November when it will be in, you guessed it, San Jose.

The closest thing to a group in the city is PenSFA, which doesn't meet in SF either. They're in the towns between San Jose and San Francisco.

Funny you should put it this way... over the past week on the SMOFS list, there's been a raging discussion about the fans in Colorado Springs trying to put together a Worldcon bid for Denver. Some folks are saying that to people not in the area, they're essentially the same city. Others, like Kevin Standlee, have been talking about the SF/SJ area and explaining why Con Jose ended up in SJ...

If you use what I wrote as reference in the debate do note that it isn't a perfect one to one comparison. In Colorado I think the only way between the cities is like greyhound bus, which would cost a great deal more than even the CalTrain baby bullet to San Jose and probably take longer. Here there are some options even if there are not good ones for going down regularly, as each way would take 2 hr 9 min at mininum if everything goes right. If I left work exactly on time today I could just barely get there in time for the 7:30 socializing start and to be home in time for bed I'd have to leave as the meeting started at 8:00.

They driffed away and stopped meeting sometime around 1998. There are some former members about, but no talk of meeting again as far as I know.
