Aug. 15th, 2005 01:40 pmWell I've discovered one way to get good fruit at low prices. I accidentally came upon a farmers market near the Civic Center stop of the MUNI, easy for me to get to. Apparently they are open every Sunday all year long. That certainly would not happen in Colorado. So I think I know where I'll buy my fruit instead of Safeway from now on. I picked up two pounds of dates, two pounds of tomatoes, and a pound of peaches so I'm good for the week.
Also on Sunday I got up to the Golden Gate Bridge and the beach. It was the first time I've seen the ocean since I've been here. I didn't go hiking though because it was cool and drizzly, so next weekend is more likely to do the Muir Woods thing. I also bought some Levi's Jeans on sale at a place on Market called The House of Jeans. Their sale price was okay, about the same as the regular price at the Army/Navy Surplus, but at least they had my actual size (29W 34L) as opposed to my risking looking highwater and loose size (30W 32L). I may try them again if they're having a sale after all having my actual size at a price that isn't astronomical is hard to find.
I really wish there were some sort of network I could connect a PDA to where I could find out when the next bus was due at the stop I'm sitting at. That would be the killer application that would finally get me to buy a PDA. I managed to miss two buses while out touring with Tolver. That was cool by the way, got to see some old gun batteries from WWII and the unofficial gay sunbathing beach.

Also, I think there's a rule that public transit systems must be massively underfunded by all levels of government. At least, that's the situation here in Toronto as well - they built a subway line in the middle of nowhere and stopped when they ran out of money. It would at least have been marginally useful if they had completed it, but it would have been more useful had it gone west to the airport instead of east to a shopping mall. (And the only reason it was built where it was, along Sheppard, instead of three stops to the south along Eglinton was because the mayor at the time started his political career in what was then our northernmost suburb.)
