I've never been to Julesburg, a town in far northeast Colorado. But I went to a very interesting Julesburg last night while asleep. It was a road trip with the parents. Driving there in a minivan we've not owned in about a decade. When we finally got close we saw this little miniature volcanoes leaking lava casually in back of things like the school bus barn. Apparently the locals just accepted these things as a fact of life and built near them, but this was what we were there to look at as tourists. In the center of town there was a two-story building that used to be a combination post office and branch patent office. Apparently there were and are a lot of inventors around the dreamland Julesburg, probably attracted by the volcanoes. Well now it is full of tourist shops selling the usual things like popcorn balls, stained glass things to hang in windows, and fudge. What is it about tourism and fudge? After a while shopping it was back to the van out in the parking lot of the national park that contained at least some of the little volcanic vents. Driving back through town we saw a fire engine going to the old Post/Patent Office building, it looked like the grill next door had set off an alarm burning something. I remembered we'd stopped there earlier and I'd been disappointed that they didn't have something only mildly sweet like oatmeal cookies for dessert and I'd just wait until we got home, because I made some earlier in the week.

Apparently sometime later I stopped off again in Julesburg, this time on my own. I was headed to Denver and I stopped at a teahouse for a cuppa Earl Greyer and something to eat. They mistook me for a regular and offered me the "usual". But I had turned that down and got tea and a bagel instead.

Then I awoke.
