&@!# Sony. My camera has ceased to work with any memory sticks and they want $171 to even look at it, much less fix it. If they decide that I didn't 'abuse' my camera they might fix what is wrong with it for just the $171, otherwise they'll charge me more. I purchased the DSC-F717 two years ago and it cost $829.55 and for that price I would think it would work a bit longer than just two years or that the repair cost wouldn't be so high in comparison with the original purchase price. Stupid bastard corporation, see if I ever buy anything of theirs again.

I just sent my Canon in for repairs, and it was something like $60.

Just another data point....

Thats a small price to pay in comparison to another camer. I fyou deside to throw it away through it my way I'll pay to get it fixed.

That sucks. Sony doesn't seem to have a very good reputation for reliability any more, and not just on cameras. If/when you decide to buy another camera, I've got a consumer reports guide on some good ones.

What I really wish I could know is if the repair will work and how long it will work for before something else goes wrong. Not that I have the money to fix it right now in any case.

Unfortunately I don't have either the money to repair it or to get another camera. I don't know what I'm going to do.

I do already intend to bad mouth Sony for the next half a decade.

I have mad mixed experiences with Sony. I really like my Sony Vaio. And when it broke -- twice so far -- they were very quick to fix it. The second time they charged a flat rate of $600 to fix my borken screen and anything else they found wrong with the computer, and I was surprised that they replaced the keyboard as well.

On the other hand, they still seem to be pushing that awful memory stick flash format. I don't like their cameras at all.

It might be the memory card not the memory card reader inthe camera. My Sony memory cards go bad all the time.

I had not had trouble with the sticks until now and liked them better on size. The other flash things are too darn small. But my camera works again for some reason. I don't know why.

My main problem with the sticks is that they are significantly more expensive than Compact Flash or the SD Cards. My camera uses Compact Flash; the industry seems to be standardizing on SD Cards.
