A Pointless Good Deed Story

I saw one of the biggest spiders I'd ever seen in Colorado again today. I'm fairly sure it was the same one because how many of that size can there be the back room where I keep my books? It used to spin a web in the window where it caught a great many flies, but possibly because I disturbed her she left that spot and today I found her wandering around on the floor. I quickly put a glass over her and was amazed to see her fully in the open fully as big as my thumbnail with a bit left over. I slipped a piece of cardboard under the glass carefully so as not to pull off any legs and left her on the back porch. I wish her good hunting outside. I would have let her stay if she had remained in the window away from my books.

I work with the biggest bunch of pansies ever! Not only will they squish bugs, but the squeal (yes, squeal) and back away from them like it's a poisonous king cobra.

Maybe the next time they have me kill a little innocent bug, I'll ask them what's so wrong about letting it live? Because I don't squish spiders or anything else if they find themselves trapped inside. Except maybe moths, those things are just annoying. But I could never do a successful capture and release, I always end up doing horrible things to them. "Sorry, you didn't need that head. Oops!"

I was a bit of a pansy this morning. It was in the wee hours, the ones where the half-light is just starting to light the east and I awoke to something tickling my back. After a moment I turned on the light and threw back the covers. I found a small black spider sitting on the sheets that I smashed with a Rex Stout book. I don't think it was a black widow but I couldn't get back to sleep for a while waiting for a tickle somewhere else on my body. Brrr.

I can't abide spiders of any size. Ick. They give me the creeps.

A couple of weekends ago, at the TT programming scheduling meeting, one came into the meeting room. I made [livejournal.com profile] cuteteenboy deal with it.

Yeah, I'm a pansy. :P

You've got the credentials to have an excuse for that. I had to get over it. I mean I lived and live again in Western Nowhere with all the spiders and mice that implies.
