Soup of Miraculous Healing, +7 HT
Sep. 25th, 2003 04:29 pmYou may have guessed from the relative lack of activity that I made it to work today, and that would be a good assumption. I felt somewhat better and because every sick day cuts into my vacation time I went to work for five hours today.
At this point I’m at the unpleasant runny nose stage of illness where I've stopped feeling like I am going to die, but still have nasty disease byproducts to deal with. To help with this I got some really spicy soup from a Vietnamese restaurant that I frequent, Thai Hep. Many local fans (well me, Rose, and Dave) believe in the healing power of things like Hot and Sour Soup. Though what I got today was a traditional beef soup with noodles, bean sprouts, onion, cilantro, and this wonderful red sauce that the eater adds until it is fiery enough. I put it all in for a taste just short of nuclear.
Oh and I just want to mention, see that new scruffy picture? That's me today. I look pretty good for coming off the fourth day of misery. Go me! <grin>. Once I feel much better I'm going to take some new pics for my livejournal.

Date: 2003-09-25 03:54 pm (UTC)Basic H&S Soup is pretty easy if (big if) you have the ingredients:
A lot of chicken broth, heated, but not boiling.
A lot of rice vinegar (to taste)
A couple of red chili pods (leave 'em in for a couple hours)
Maybe a tablespoon or two of corn starch or flour to thicken it up with if you so desire.
Okay! That takes care of the "soup" part, the "sour" part, and the "hot" part. The rest is all up to you:
Various and sundry types of mushrooms, tree fungus, seaweed strands, diced tofu, cooked chicken or pork bits, water chestnuts, green onions, in short - *anything* you want that won't dissolve in the broth. (I don't recommend adding Cheerios, for instance.)
One egg, beaten, droozled into the broth while you stir it to make egg streamers in the soup and add some texture.
Take those chili pods out before you put it in the fridge overnight, unless you really want to light up your tastebuds in the morning. Not sure what the lethal dose is, though.
