I Have My Doubts
Sep. 15th, 2009 11:45 pmIt probably is not for me, but there is a new(ish) dating website called Soulgeek. I'm sure that five years ago I would have been all enthusiastic about the prospect of a dating site for geeks, but now I'm not sure I am much of a geek any longer. Sure I still love a good genre movie or book, but I now see myself more of a reader like any other variety of book enthusiast rather someone who's social life revolves around fandom.
Perhaps I am only deluding myself, but I no longer see myself as being more like the typical or average convention goer than I would be like a member of the general population. Fan is short of fanatic and I am no longer that intensely interested in science fiction or even in fantasy.
So I am thinking that my time in fandom is drawing to a close. I do not regret my time in fandom, in fact I would reccomend it to any young man who's shy and socially awkward. Though I would also recomend getting out when you find yourself being more intersted in things like china cabinets, napkins, and dinner parties (or other 'mainstream' interests) more than Halo night or whoever the 5th Doctor was.
