The United States is in the process of abandoning its commitment to the all important International Man-in-a-Can Product and there are troubling problems with the Replacement Man-in-a-Can Product. This proves, proves I say!, that the days of US empire are numbered.
This is no different than when the British Empire abandoned its attempts to send a ship through the Northwest Passage after the disastrous Franklin Expedition. Instead of trying again with more technology, money, and men they left the prize to the Norwegians. And as a direct result they also lost the race to the South Pole due to the expertise gained by Amundsen in his heroic trip through the Canadian Arctic. And we can all see how this worked out for Norway, now a great world power, all due to its domination of Antarctic and Arctic exploration.
So we must all join with Buzz Aldrin to urge the presidential candidates to commit to sending men to the moon to beat the Chinese to Mars. If we do not the future is stark. We won't have access to the technology or bragging rights that putting men in inhospitable environments at enormous expense will bring. And wonderous new Tang-like technologies that they'll have a monopoly on too!
