At the White Fence Farm
Apr. 5th, 2006 12:41 amMy mother's birthday was celebrated last Friday at The White Fence Farm. The best that can be said about that restaurant is that they serve generous portions of food. Four pieces of chicken is the standard meal along with unlimited sides like pickled beets, bean salad, plain coleslaw, and a serving of mashed potatoes that can be replaced by a salad. While this might hold attraction to a big eater I didn't find much appealing about the place. I felt the whole time that I was in a 1950s time warp from the blue naugahyde chairs to the lack of spices on the food. If for some reason you do go have the chicken, which is decent though overpriced, unless you like beef liver with onions. The steak is truly atrocious, worst one I've ever eaten.
I was also bemused by the fact that my family lives way out on the edge of urbanization, but we drove an hour and a half each way to go to a faux country restaurant in Lakewood. By midway through the trip back I just wanted to be left alone while my grandmother wanted to talk to me. It wasn't a good scene, though at least I didn't make a scene.
