mishalak: A fantasy version of myself drawn by Sue Mason (Beautiful Dreamer)
Phantom Publishing started a new free (monthly?) fashion 'zine. I picked up a copy of the February debut issue at Relatively Wilde this past weekend.Read more... )I review this as an interesting start, but not something I'm going to keep picking up unless they figure out how to better use black and white or go to color. With black and white print I think there need to be more words than pictures, and would it hurt any fashion mag to actually explain something rather than to have articles that are more advertisement for specific pieces of clothing and furniture? Of course that is probably an unrealistic expectation, but then who's going to read this publication? I doubt the people who can afford $500-1000 outfits are going to dirty their hands by picking up a 'zine that looks like this. "A" for effort, "C Minus" for actual contents given the free price.

Irony

Words evolve and so on. But it is disappointing that people seem to think that "ironic" means bitter or disappointing. I might use the word "ironic" here, but misusing words is exactly what I expect from people and so it is merely disappointing, rather like rain on a wedding day, that such a useful word is being reduced to meaninglessness by people who don't have the brains to use a thesaurus.
