An Improved Idea: Oils
Feb. 10th, 2006 01:15 pmOil going rancid is mainly a problem for me when I am using some specialty oil for a recipe. The classic buying too much and not being able to use it up. Buying just a little bottle seems wasteful, because even that is too much typically and once opened it goes rancid that much faster. What if instead of coming in bottles it came in tablespoon packets? Buy them by the unit as much or as little as needed, no need to count them, just weigh the bag at the checkout stand to get a count. I know the established system of putting it in little bottles is probably plenty cost effective and so on, but it was a neat idea.
This is a variation on my idea of putting oil in collapsible plastic bags like wine to keep it fresh. Which it turns out they do for commercial amounts of standard cooking oils.
