In My Mind
Oct. 15th, 2004 02:44 pmA snarky little comment went flickering through the dark spaces of Mishalak's brain. Up through dark chasms barely illuminated by blue-grey light it headed for the upper levels where it might escape. A cruel smile twisted its elfin lips. To cause grief and trouble unending, soon it would try its best to stick a sharp knife right where it could hurt someone the most. It landed near the uppermost gallery and started down a dark hallway. Only a little farther now.
A strange howl echoed down the hallways, rising with a trill like some sort of strange bird. The hunters! The snarky comment started to run as the screech rolled behind him. Almost there, almost there ...
One of the hunters came barreling out of a side passage with its lizard/cat like beast. All in chains and tattered cloth it advanced, fixing the snark with expressionless grey eyes above a collar that hid its lower face. The snarky comment tensed. Perhaps it could cut its way free or dodge around the hunter.
The hunter sprang toward him, its cruelly barbed knife shining, and the hunter's beast leaped forward, all claws and little sharp teeth glinting in a triangular jaw. It held the snarky comment for just a moment. The snark twisted free of the beast's embrace and was off to run again, but the moment of delay cost it everything. The hunter tackled and struggled with it. A few moments later the fight was over. The bound snark was picked up by the hunter and tossed back down the shaft it had come from, hopefully never to see the light of day.
