I've been cleaning here for a while, being all efficient and proactive. However certain facts have asserted themselves in the course of cleaning my apartment. When the time comes I'm going to look for a place that has the following additional attributes.

· Double the closet space. <looks at clothes> Make that triple or room for an armoire or other storage furniture.
· Double to triple the cabinet/storage space for stuff in the kitchen.
· Located well for doing things with friends.

It also should have the following, which I currently enjoy.

· Gas jets on the stove top for fast efficient cooking.
· At least the same amount of living space with additional public space for entertaining (my porch) or else more living space to make up for the lack of place for friends to hang out.
· A darn good price.
· Excellent access to public transit.

Obviously I'm going to not get all of these. Unless my luck kicks it up a notch. But it is a good list to start from. Now I should just measure my apartment to figure out how much space there really is in here.

Cap Hill would be great, though I don't know about the expense side. Unless I could ditch an expense (like say if my job was in bike distance) I don't know that I could afford to live up there. So yeah, if I get a job with the state or someone else where I'm working somewhere downtownish that would be excellent.

Shelf space for books comes with six bookcases I jam into my living space. Well only five right now. The sixth is in my kitchen.

Oh, I was thinking Capitol Hill might be cheaper, and I was thinking you had quit your job...

I dunno, just random thinking out loud, I don't actually have any ideas...

What do you consider to be a good price? (And for what accomodations ... i.e., 1 bed/1 ba, 2 bed/1 ba, 2 bed/2 ba?)

Right now I'm in a studio (1 room, kitchen, bath, closet, no separate bedroom) for $400 a month including gas and water, but not including telephone or electric. I estimate it at 300sq. I one bedroom with a living room would be like massive luxury to me.

I was flipping through a Westword the other day nad they had a listing for a 1 bedroom somewhere in Capitol Hill for $467 and a studio for $402.

that sounds about right for the hill- 400+/- for studio, 500+ for 1br. Car and I have a great 1br with wood floors and massive amounts of storage, and it's 600.

Your process sounds like what we went through before househunting. We made "must have," "really want to have," and "would be nice to have" lists, which were helpful looking at places. I see that once again they have a For Rent sign out in front of our old building at 13th & Humboldt, but I have no idea what the rents are these days. Very central, though, and near several bus lines. --Rose
