One last thing before I sleep. I had a notion the other week that next year at MileHiCon I would produce a program called "Now You Don't Have to See the Movie" or something like that. It would consist of the one good scene from lots of bad movies. It might not be literally true that these movies were unmatchably bad, but there are a lot of beautiful moments in otherwise pretty mediocre movies. Here is my list so far:

  • A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Where Lions Weep

  • Air Force One, Get off my plane

  • Alien³, Ripley and the monster

  • Batman Forever, Holy Rusted Iron

  • Bedazzled, I'm gay!

  • Broken Arrow, You're Insane! Yeah, ain't it cool?

  • Chain Reaction, Blow Ups Happen

  • Close Encounters of the Third Kind, mashed potatoes or the abductees return

  • Con Air, (I'm sure there must be one.)

  • Deep Impact, the big impact

  • The Devil's Advocate, God is An Absentee Landlord

  • Dragonheart, Stand Off

  • Dungeons and Dragons, Tom Baker's Elf King Scene[1]

  • Escape from L.A., Snake Gets Everyone or maybe Bruce Campbell's Plastic Surgeon

  • The Fifth Element, The big New York of the Future Landscape

  • GoldenEye, Tank Driving in St. Petersburg

  • Gone with the Wind, Burning Atlanta

  • Gremlins 2, Put all your money in caned goods and shotguns

  • Independence Day, Blowing up Cities

  • Innocent Blood, Dead Mobster Walking

  • Joe Versus the Volcano, Moon Rise (maybe)

  • Jurassic Park II, Later there'll be running and screaming.

  • Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Cage Fight

  • Men in Black, Shooting Jeaves

  • Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Cancel Christmas

  • Supernova, Robot gives the finger

  • The Time Machine, operation the machine and the moon blows up.

  • Toys, Mirror Dance

  • The Truman Show, Big Finale

  • We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story, Fear and Crows

  • What Dreams May Come, The Library

[1] I've not seen this one. But I'm told this scene is good.

Back in the 60s, there was a book called Show Me the Good Parts, with just the sex scenes from various novels.

Extra Credit Question: somehow glueing the above scenes together after the manner of Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid....

Well I think I could hook up all the cities ones that way. Goldeneye, The Fifth Element, Gremlins 2, Gone With the Wind, Chain Reaction, The Time Machine, Escape from L.A., Independance Day, and then a sort of aftermath one in A.I. Then maybe the big finalie of nothing is real from The Truman Show and the Toys Mirror Dance. But that's all I can come up with for now.

Given how I feel about sex scenes in books I probably would have been bored by it. I find myself skipping ahead in books that have them usually.

Coo. You picked that up and ran with it. I'd been joking, more or less, but that looks like it could work.

One of my friends once made a whole new movie out of bits of Star Trek Generations and Star Wars I-III. It wasn't half bad either. The diologe worked together mostly. It had a big finish with every time someone said "What?!" in the four movies and then a bit of Plup Fiction. "Say 'What' again, I dare you!"

Nah. From Pulp Fiction you want the line about getting medieval on your ass. Uh. That wasPulp Fiction wasn't it? Or am I hallucinating again?
