Site Review: Connexion.org

Tim Gill, the gay philanthropist, has a website dedicated to helping queer people (which I use rather than listing all the subgroups) and straight but supportive folks be active in the cause of equal rights. As the very large carrot to keep people interested in the site it has a system somewhere in the same ballpark as friendster or a very clean gay dating site. There is a flash based chat program, member profiles, search function, internal message system, and helpful alerts to go write emails/letter to important personages. Being a deeply cynical person I don't know how much me writing a heartfelt email to Sen. Allard (or whoever) will help, but it isn't a very high price of membership. It is probably more useful than all but the largest or best designed of the dating websites. Due to the user base there isn't much there for a straight person who's looking to date, though for a dedicated liberal it will weed out anyone less than tolerant. So a moderate thumbs up from this skeptic.
