Listening to his early work I think Al Stewart was going to be a British combination of Simon and Garfunkle. But his later stuff goes in a different direction. Just a random observation. That and he likes Gormenghast.

Love Al Stewart (so does bohemiancoast), love the stories he tells in his songs and yes, he does go off in a tangent. I like his early stuff best, 24 Carrots is my favourite.

The xmas card and note arrived, much thanks.

You're welcome, it was very fun to send.

Now that I've got early obscure stuff I should start buying his later CDs.

"The Year of The Cat."

One of my all-time favorite songs when I was growing up, and still to this day. My Elf just downloaded it for me- and I am in heaven.

I have to tell people not to tell me what songs are about. I like to try to figure it out on my own.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Personally, I have no idea what "Year of the Cat" is about, and I realized that when listening to it the other day. I think I liked it so much as a kid because it said "cat." :-)

I did it again--bwahahahah!

So, Buffy, Firefly, Al Stewart ... I've managed to hook you into several things now. My evil geniusness grows!
I've been listening to an Al Stewart collection in my car lately. Among my (many) faves: Road to Moscow, Life in Dark Water, Old Admirals, Man for All Seasons, Eyes of Nostradamus (gotta hear the earlier version you have some time), Valentina Way, and Road to Moscow. (Yes I know I already said it, but I *really* like it--have I ever played the Renaissance song Mother Russia for you? Soon...) --Rose

Live is great

Al Stewart was the first headliner musical guest at Denver's Festival of Mountain & Plain (open-air Labor Day food, beer & music bash). This would be roughly 20 years ago. I went to see both shows. He was fabulous! I don't remember t-shirts being available, though. -Rose
