The Provinces of Fandom: Barony Caerthe

So this is my report on going to a SCA meeting last Fridays. Executive Summery; I had lots of fun talking to people at the feast. Oh and I bought a shirt after brunch on Sunday that could double as something to wear to these events, so I'm set for next time.
Oh and time for the weird coincidence in my life. I had been to a party for a friend on July 4th and run into Barb there. I talked to her a bit about fandom, but didn't mention a word about the SCA or being interested. Then when I pick up the phone earlier this month to call the number listed on the local Barony's website I end up talking to her again. My life is just like this. So I ended up going the Eat Drink and Be Merry Revel on the 18th of July and actually knowing someone there ahead of time. V. good.
The Society for Creative Anachronism in Denver makes me jealous. They are very organized, unlike DASFA. Strange to think that DASFA was founded by some of the same people who started the local Barony sometime around 1970. Reports are hazy since the it started out as a medieval club at a local high school and so even if a exact date could be found no one would know if it would count or not. Or course for the problem's solution I have to look in the mirror. And that sounds like work, I'll just avoid that.
Then again maybe there is something about having to dress up in official clothes that makes a group more organized, like army uniforms. For those of you who have never attended a SCA event everyone there has to dress up in either their own plausibly period clothing or else some of the loaners they have. Not a bad price to pay for a good free meal, maybe I shouldn't be letting other fans know about this...
So I had a grand time talking to members at the Eat Drink and Be Merry Revel at Ladt Damia's (Barb Drumm-Brower) north Denver home. She owns a former library (not huge, just a smallish sized Carnegie type) one room of which makes for a very nice hall. The group is very lucky to have such a wonderful place to meet and doubly so that Barb is so nice as to let everyone invade her home once a month. Among other things I learned talking to the people there is that the local group sill is working on their building fund, though they don't do bingo nights anymore due to the smoke.
Not a bad experience, I don' think I have the time to get deeply involved, but I definitely have an interest in attending some more of their meetings. Good advice on sewing up clothes this time. I could stand to learn a few more craft skills.
If you want to get involved contact Ladt Damia at 303-296-7673 (between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM only) or by e-mail at hospitaller@sca-caerthe.org.
As always, "Questions? Comments?" I need to know what I should add to this to make it part of a useful guide to fandom in Denver. Am wicked clueless.
