Hey Log Cabin Republicans
Sep. 5th, 2008 07:47 amRemember eight years ago? No? "The nation's largest gay Republican organization, meeting in Philadelphia today, voted overwhelmingly to endorse George W. Bush for President." Does that ring a bell? No?
Here is a link to the Wayback Machine's archive of the endorsement found on the Log Cabin Republican's website. Why do I mention this. Oh because you Log Cabiners endorsed Sen. John McCain III for president. Did you think about this? Do you have a clue?
Good thing you gay Republicans can point to that vote against a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Because otherwise you would have nothing to point to as to why you're endorsing him. John McCain is for bans on gay marriage on the state level. He endorsed the incredibly restrictive ban on marriage and civil unions in Arizona. Oh, but surely a great military guy like him would be against hurting our military by kicking out openly gay servicemen and women. And even gay Republicans wouldn't endorse someone who supported this sort of descrimination.... Oh wait, wrong again.
Well back in 2000 the gay republicans worked out a deal. Let's quote that old press release again.
Surely you've got at least that to show why gays should support John McCain. Oh wait, again the answer is no.
Why the hell are you endorsing this ticket? Do you have no memory of what happened the last time? John McCain shouldn't be endorsed, he should be excoriated! And gays should not vote Republican yet.

2008: “Sen. McCain is an inclusive Republican who is focusing the GOP on unifying core principles that appeal to independent voters.”
2000: He reached out to our organization's leadership, and made it publicly clear that he has a vision of being a President for all Americans - black, white, Latino, men, women, gay and straight. That his vision of an inclusive Republican Party includes gay and lesbian Republicans.

"In our meetings with his campaign, we asked for clear public signs that our people would be welcomed into his Republican Party and his Administration. Through his work on the platform, the historic speech of openly gay Congressman Jim Kolbe in prime time, the welcoming of openly gay delegates and alternates and running a consistenly inclusive convention, Governor Bush showed that he wants to lead this new Republican Party.
